Funny how that happens. We never see it in France. Here, all shopping carts are chained together. You need a 1 euro coin (equivalent to about $1.30) to unchain one. You get your coin back when you return to the cart to the stand.
All the stores will give you a reusable token for free, so you don't even need a coin.

Sometimes I just want to yell at inanimate objects in public to see people's reactions.
So many of those loose carts here in dallas. I like the coin idea. They did that in Finland too.
